Residents of Mbogwe District have welcomed the government’s efforts to improve access to clean and safe water after the launch of a TZS 2.5 billion water project expected to serve more than 21,000 people in six villages.
The project, commissioned by Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde during his visit to Geita Region, is part of government efforts to expand access to essential services and improve living standards in rural communities.
The newly launched water facility, located in Ushirika Village, has a storage capacity of 150,000 litres and is expected to ease the burden faced by residents who previously struggled to access reliable water services.
Speaking during a public meeting in Lugunga Village, Mavunde said the government was shifting focus from development plans on paper to practical implementation of projects that respond to citizens’ needs.
“Government priorities must be reflected in projects that directly improve people’s lives,” he said, adding that President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration remains committed to delivering development projects across the country.
Beyond water services, Mavunde said the government was working to improve rural connectivity, announcing plans to construct 102 kilometres of rural roads in different areas of Geita Region.
He said improved roads would support farmers, miners, traders and other residents by reducing transport challenges and increasing access to markets and social services.
Mavunde also pledged continued efforts to improve public infrastructure in Mbogwe, including the installation of street lighting to enhance safety and support local businesses.
During the meeting, the minister provided education on mining laws, urging citizens to participate in the sector by obtaining legal mining licences and following established procedures.
He reminded miners that having a licence does not allow them to operate on another person’s land without reaching an agreement with the landowner, stressing the importance of respecting ownership rights.
Mavunde further said the government was expanding electricity access to mining areas and other productive zones to increase economic activities and encourage investment.
In education, the minister inaugurated a new students’ dormitory at Nyakasaluma Secondary School, a facility expected to improve the learning environment and support better academic outcomes.
Geita Regional Commissioner Martin Shigella commended the continued implementation of development projects in the region, while calling for further support to speed up road construction in Mbogwe and promote wider access to health insurance services.
Mbogwe Member of Parliament Alon Fagason said the projects would have a direct impact on residents by improving social services and creating a better environment for economic growth.
Residents also praised President Samia’s administration for increasing recruitment of teachers and healthcare workers, saying the move has strengthened service delivery in schools and health facilities across the district.
