Deputy Minister for Health Dr Florence Samizi has called on health professionals and students to become ambassadors of the Ministry of Health's agenda by promoting healthy lifestyles and delivering evidence-based health education to communities across the country.

Speaking on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during a meeting with health professionals and students at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam, Dr Samizi said the country's future healthcare workforce has a critical role to play in advancing national health priorities.

She urged participants to continue drawing guidance from the policy directions and speeches of Health Minister Mohamed Mchengerwa and to translate those priorities into practical action through the services they provide and public health awareness campaigns.

Dr Samizi identified the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as one of the ministry's foremost priorities, saying the government is intensifying efforts to reduce the growing burden of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes by encouraging lifestyle changes.

She encouraged health workers and students to promote regular physical exercise and mobilise communities to participate in the "Know Your Numbers" campaign, which encourages people to routinely check their blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and height to identify health risks before they develop into serious illnesses.

The deputy minister also underscored the responsibility of healthcare professionals to provide accurate, science-based information to the public, saying they must take the lead in combating misinformation while strengthening public awareness on disease prevention and control.

She said the successful implementation of the Ministry of Health's programmes depends not only on the commitment of health workers but also on the peace and stability the country continues to enjoy.

Dr Samizi therefore urged Tanzanians to safeguard national peace, unity and social cohesion, noting that a stable environment is essential for delivering quality healthcare services and achieving the country's broader development goals.
