Eight-year-old Aditya Rathore wins Gold as Tanzania shines at World Schools Chess Championship

Tanzania has celebrated a remarkable achievement on the international chess stage after eight-year-old Aditya Rathore won an individual gold medal at the FIDE–ISCF World Schools Chess Championship – African Continental Stage held in Cape Town, South Africa.

Representing the United Republic of Tanzania, the Aga Khan School chess team was selected by the Tanzania Chess Association (TACA) to compete against some of Africa's strongest school teams in the prestigious championship organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the International School Chess Federation (ISCF).

Aditya emerged as the tournament's standout performer, claiming the individual gold medal with a perfect record of nine victories from nine games (9/9).

His flawless campaign highlighted exceptional talent, discipline, and determination, making him one of the brightest young chess prospects in the region.

The achievement is regarded as a major milestone not only for Aditya but also for Tanzania, demonstrating the country's growing potential to produce world-class chess players through continued investment in youth development.

TACA praised the entire Tanzanian team for its dedication, discipline, and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the competition. 

The association also expressed gratitude to the coaches, parents, and Aga Khan School for their unwavering support and commitment in preparing the players for the championship.

The team is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam today aboard a South African Airways flight scheduled to land at 2:30 p.m., where they will receive a warm welcome from chess officials, parents, supporters, and members of the sporting fraternity.

"This achievement is a source of immense national pride," TACA said in a statement.

"The success of these young players, especially the outstanding performance by Aditya Rathore, demonstrates that Tanzania has the talent to excel on the world stage.

We congratulate every member of the team and encourage continued investment in school chess to nurture future champions."

TACA Communications Officer Mussa Mangula said the association remains committed to promoting chess across the country by creating opportunities for young players to develop their skills and represent Tanzania with distinction in regional and international competitions.
