Dr. Mwigulu urges Tanzanians to unite in protecting peace

By Our Correspondent, Dar es Salaam

Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has urged Tanzanians to remain united in protecting the country’s peace, saying stability remains a key pillar for economic growth, social development and national progress.

Dr Nchemba said maintaining peace should be a collective responsibility for every citizen regardless of religious, ethnic or political differences.

He made the remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities, Prof Palamagamba Kabudi, during the Adventist Men’s Organisation (AMO) Big Day service held at the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam, on July 11, 2026.

The Prime Minister said peace must continue to be treated as a top national priority because it creates an environment where citizens can engage in economic activities, invest, work productively and contribute to national development.

“Peace must be given priority and should be the number one national agenda for everyone. All Tanzanians should recognise that we have a responsibility to protect our peace,” Dr Nchemba said.

He called on citizens to uphold the rule of law, strengthen national unity and avoid actions that could undermine security and social harmony.

Dr Nchemba also appealed to religious leaders to continue partnering with the government in promoting messages of peace, love, unity and responsible citizenship through their teachings.

He said faith leaders have a crucial role in shaping communities and encouraging values that support peaceful coexistence.

“Religious leaders should continue preaching the importance of maintaining peace and love among communities. Work with the government to ensure our country continues to have peace and stability because protecting peace has no alternative,” he said.

The Prime Minister said Tanzania’s reputation as a peaceful nation has contributed to increased confidence among investors, growth of business activities and improvement of social services.

He added that a peaceful environment remains essential for achieving the country’s development goals and improving citizens’ livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Dr Nchemba congratulated members of the SDA Church in Mwenge for completing the construction of a modern worship building, describing it as a reflection of their commitment, unity and dedication.

He said the project demonstrated the importance of collective efforts in achieving shared goals within communities.
