Tanzanians have been encouraged to visit the Cooperative Village during the 2026 National Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Nzuguni, Dodoma, to explore products, services and investment opportunities presented by the country’s cooperative sector.
The call was made by Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Consolata Kiluma, who said the exhibition provides an important platform for citizens to understand how cooperatives contribute to economic growth, job creation and improved livelihoods.
Kiluma said the Cooperative Village will officially open on August 1 and will bring together around 90 exhibitors representing various cooperative societies from across Tanzania, including agricultural cooperatives, Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS), and other cooperative organizations.
She said the exhibition will also feature key institutions supporting the cooperative movement, including the Cooperative Bank, Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU), Cooperative Audit and Supervision Corporation (COASCO), insurance companies and development partners.
“Visitors will have an opportunity to see products and services offered by cooperative societies while gaining a better understanding of the role cooperatives play in improving livelihoods and supporting national economic development,” Kiluma said.
She added that August 3 will be marked as Cooperatives Day, an event expected to be officiated by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The day will allow cooperative members to present their achievements and engage with government leaders on ways to further strengthen the sector.
Kiluma said several partnership agreements between cooperative institutions and development partners are expected to be signed during the event, alongside the launch of key reports and initiatives aimed at advancing the cooperative movement.
She further announced that a Women’s Cooperatives Conference will be held on August 6, bringing together women engaged in cooperative activities to share experiences, highlight achievements and discuss ways to increase women’s participation in the sector.
According to Kiluma, cooperatives remain a key pillar of Tanzania’s economic development, particularly in agriculture, where they help farmers access markets, secure better prices for their produce and receive payments more efficiently.
She noted that cooperative societies have also supported farmers through timely access to agricultural inputs, expanded financial inclusion through SACCOS, created employment opportunities and contributed to community development projects in areas such as health and education.
“The cooperative sector continues to be an important partner in transforming livelihoods and strengthening inclusive economic growth,” Kiluma said.
She urged Tanzanians to attend the Nanenane exhibition and visit the Cooperative Village to witness how cooperative societies are contributing to economic empowerment and sustainable development across the country.
