Youth urged to avoid protests and maintain peace in Tanzania

Residents in Dar es Salaam have called on young people to avoid being influenced into participating in demonstrations that could threaten peace and stability, instead encouraging them to focus on productive activities that support livelihoods and national development.

Speaking on Sunday, June 28, 2026, local resident Ibrahim Ramadhan said there has been increasing influence encouraging youth to take part in street protests, warning that such actions should be approached with caution.

He noted that any disruption of peace can quickly spill over into daily life, affecting families, businesses and the broader economy.

He said maintaining stability is essential for development, adding that when public order is disturbed, economic activities slow down, transport is disrupted and citizens are left struggling to carry out their normal routines.

Another resident, Hussein Kombo of Ilala, said demonstrations are not a constructive way of addressing social and economic challenges.

He warned that protests can easily escalate into violence, creating fear and halting essential activities such as work, trade and transport.

Kombo pointed to past incidents in October 2025, saying they demonstrated how quickly unrest can disrupt normal life when peace is not protected.

He urged young people to use peaceful and legal channels when expressing concerns, stressing that national unity depends on responsible participation in civic matters.

Abbas Sarongo, also a Dar es Salaam resident, said demonstrations often disrupt production, business operations and transport systems, leading to financial losses for individuals and the wider economy.

He emphasized that peace is the foundation of development, calling on all citizens to protect it in the interest of national progress.
