Young Africans SC (Yanga) have strengthened their position at the summit of the NBC Premier League after a convincing 3-0 victory over Azam FC on June 24, 2026, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, in a result that has further intensified the season-ending title race.

The win takes Yanga to 69 points, maintaining a narrow two-point lead over their closest challengers Simba SC, who sit on 67 points.

With both sides having two matches remaining, the championship battle remains finely poised and set for a tense conclusion.

Yanga broke the deadlock in the 41st minute through Ibrahim Abdullah “Bacca,” who finished clinically to give the defending champions a deserved lead going into halftime after a disciplined and composed first-half display.

After the restart, Azam FC attempted to push for an equaliser, but Yanga’s structure and attacking efficiency proved decisive. In the 73rd minute, Laurindo Dilson “Depu” converted from the penalty spot after Azam were penalised for a foul inside the area, doubling the advantage and shifting momentum firmly in Yanga’s favour.

The victory was sealed in the 81st minute when Pacome Zouzoua produced a composed finish to complete a dominant performance and underline Yanga’s attacking depth and control in key moments of the match.

The result not only consolidates Yanga’s position at the top but also increases pressure on their title rivals as the season approaches its decisive stage, with every remaining match expected to play a crucial role in determining the 2025/26 NBC Premier League champion.
