Simba SC have maintained their pursuit of NBC Premier League leaders Yanga SC after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Mtibwa Sugar in a league encounter played at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro.

The result keeps Simba firmly in the title race as the championship battle between the two traditional giants of Tanzanian football continues to intensify, with only a narrow gap separating them at the top of the table.

Simba started the match brightly, showing urgency and attacking intent from the opening minutes. Their early pressure paid off in the 9th minute when defender Rushine De Reuck calmly converted from the penalty spot to hand Simba an early lead.

The goal gave Simba control of the tempo as they dictated possession and limited Mtibwa Sugar’s attacking threat.

Despite going behind early, Mtibwa Sugar tried to respond with quick transitions and long passes forward, but Simba’s defensive organisation held firm. The visitors remained compact and disciplined, ensuring they went into the halftime break leading 1-0.

After the restart, Simba returned with increased intensity and sharper attacking movement, pushing Mtibwa Sugar deeper into their own half.

Their persistence paid off as they continued to create chances and stretch the opposition defence.

The breakthrough came in the 77th minute when Selemani Mwalimu finished off a well-worked move to double Simba’s advantage. The goal eased the pressure on Simba and effectively put the game beyond Mtibwa Sugar’s reach.

Simba then capped off a dominant performance in the 90th minute when Anicet Oura added a third goal, sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory and underlining their attacking strength in the closing stages of the match.

The win ensures Simba SC remain second on the NBC Premier League standings with 67 points, continuing to apply pressure on Yanga SC, who lead the table by just two points.

The tight margin at the top has set up a thrilling finish to the season, with both sides expected to fight until the final matches.

For Simba, the victory not only strengthens their title challenge but also boosts confidence ahead of the decisive fixtures ahead. Their ability to maintain defensive stability while improving efficiency in attack will be crucial in the remaining games.

Mtibwa Sugar, meanwhile, were left to reflect on another difficult outing against a top side, as they struggled to match Simba’s pace and organisation throughout the match.

With the season approaching its climax, the NBC Premier League title race remains finely poised, with Simba SC and Yanga SC locked in a fierce contest that continues to captivate football fans across the country.
