The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has emerged as one of the attractions at the ongoing 2026 Public Service Week celebrations in Dodoma, with visitors commending the agency for providing practical education on the importance of accurate measurements in everyday transactions.
Stakeholders who visited the agency’s exhibition booth on the opening day of the event said the information shared by WMA experts had improved their understanding of measurement standards and their role in protecting consumers and promoting fairness in trade.
Among those who visited the booth were representatives from public institutions and members of the public, who said the agency’s awareness campaign had helped clarify issues related to the proper use of weighing and measuring instruments.
Ms Nadhifa Nyoni from Tanga Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (Tanga UWASA), Ms Rose Mmary of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) and Dodoma resident Ms Janeth Matara praised the agency for its efforts in educating citizens on matters that directly affect consumers and businesses.
They noted that the knowledge gained from WMA specialists would help them better appreciate the importance of measurement accuracy in service delivery and commercial activities.
Meanwhile, University of Dodoma student Abbas Kayanda said the agency’s public outreach initiatives were valuable and called for greater efforts to extend measurement awareness programmes to rural communities.
He said expanding access to such education would enable more Tanzanians to understand their rights as consumers and the significance of accurate measurements in daily transactions.
The 2026 National Public Service Week celebrations officially began on June 16 at the Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma and will run until June 23.
Held under the theme “Promoting Inclusive Accountability for Sustainable Development,” the event has brought together government institutions and public agencies to showcase services, engage with citizens and strengthen accountability in public service delivery.
Through its participation, WMA is using the platform to educate the public on the importance of measurement standards in safeguarding consumer interests, enhancing confidence in trade and supporting economic growth.
