Tanzania’s national women’s football team, Twiga Stars, will tomorrow face Malawi in an international friendly match under the FIFA calendar at the KMC Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.
The fixture is part of both teams’ build-up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), serving as a key opportunity to assess performance levels, test tactical readiness, and strengthen preparations ahead of the continental championship.
Twiga Stars assistant coach Edna Lema said the match is an important step in evaluating the team’s progress while also improving their FIFA ranking.
She noted that Malawi is a strong and competitive side, adding that the encounter will provide a serious test for her players ahead of WAFCON.
“Malawi and Tanzania are both heading to WAFCON, so this match will give us a clear picture of our preparedness and highlight areas that still need improvement before the tournament,” said Lema.
She further explained that the technical bench will use the friendly to assess individual and collective performance, as well as gauge the overall readiness of the squad for upcoming international commitments.
On the other hand, Malawi head coach Lovemore Fazil expressed appreciation to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for arranging the friendly match, saying it offers valuable exposure for his team.
Fazil said the match is a key part of Malawi’s preparations for WAFCON, which is set to take place in July in Morocco.
“We have had a 10-day training camp in Malawi, and my squad is both mentally and tactically ready for the match against Tanzania,” he said.
The match is expected to be highly competitive, with both teams using it as an important benchmark to fine-tune their squads ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
