Twiga Stars hold Malawi to goalless draw in tight international friendly

The Tanzania women’s national football team, Twiga Stars, were held to a 0-0 draw by Malawi’s women’s national side, Malawi women's national football team, in a closely contested international friendly match played on June 6, 2026, at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.

The FIFA international calendar return-leg fixture lived up to expectations, with both teams showing intensity, organisation, and a clear desire to control the game from the opening whistle.

Early exchanges were fast-paced, but both sides struggled to convert promising build-up play into meaningful chances inside the final third.

During the first half, Twiga Stars applied sustained pressure through wide play and midfield combinations, while Malawi responded with quick transitions and counter-attacks.

However, strong defensive structures on both ends ensured that clear scoring opportunities were kept to a minimum, sending the teams into halftime locked at 0-0.

After the break, the tempo increased as both coaches introduced tactical changes aimed at breaking the deadlock.

Twiga Stars pushed higher up the pitch in search of a breakthrough, while Malawi remained disciplined defensively and looked dangerous on the counter whenever space opened up.

Despite the improved attacking intent from both sides, finishing remained the missing ingredient. Goalkeepers and defensive lines delivered composed performances, cutting out dangerous passes and denying attempts that might have changed the outcome of the match.

As the final whistle was blown, neither side had managed to find the back of the net, confirming a share of the spoils in a tightly balanced encounter.

The result means Twiga Stars conclude their two-match friendly series against Malawi unbeaten. The Tanzanian side secured a 1-0 victory in the first meeting before settling for a draw in the return leg, a performance that offers valuable lessons as both teams continue their preparations for upcoming international competitions.
