The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) has been honoured on World Environment Day 2026 in recognition of its strong contribution to environmental conservation and the promotion of climate-resilient agriculture in Tanzania.

The award was presented in Dodoma on June 5, 2026, on behalf of Her Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania by the Vice President, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchini.

He said the recognition reflects government appreciation of institutions that are advancing sustainable development and supporting efforts to protect the environment while improving livelihoods.

The award was jointly issued by the Office of the Vice President and environmental stakeholders in acknowledgement of TADB’s role in financing climate-smart agriculture, promoting sustainable use of natural resources, and supporting investment in environmentally friendly technologies that strengthen agricultural transformation.

The Vice President noted that Tanzania continues to scale up its response to climate change through stronger policies and partnerships with financial institutions.

He said development finance institutions remain central in enabling farmers and agribusinesses to adopt modern and sustainable production systems that increase productivity while protecting the environment.

TADB was particularly commended for financing initiatives that strengthen resilience in the agricultural sector, including irrigation development, improved farming technologies, and green investments that reduce environmental degradation while supporting higher agricultural output.

The award was received by Ms. Hawabai Abdulla on behalf of the Managing Director of TADB. She was accompanied by Mr. Alex Ndikile, Secretary to the Managing Director, and Ms. Prudence Masako, a member of the Board of Directors.

Speaking after receiving the award, the delegation expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting that it reflects the bank’s continued commitment to aligning financial services with national development priorities and global environmental goals.

They reaffirmed TADB’s commitment to continue supporting farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses to adopt sustainable practices that enhance food security, build resilience to climate change, and protect natural resources.

World Environment Day 2026 celebrations in Dodoma brought together government leaders, development partners, and stakeholders in the environmental sector, highlighting ongoing national efforts to promote green growth and sustainable development in Tanzania.
