More than 300 citizens have visited the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) pavilion since the start of the 2026 Public Service Week exhibition, receiving information and updates on the implementation of district road projects across the country.
The engagement has provided a platform for citizens to present concerns directly to the agency while enabling TARURA officials to provide immediate explanations and connect visitors with regional and district road managers responsible for specific projects.
TARURA’s Head of Public Relations and Communication, Catherine Sungura, said many visitors have sought clarification on the progress of road construction and maintenance projects in their areas.
“We receive citizens from different parts of Tanzania who want to understand the status of roads in their communities. In many cases, they are able to get answers immediately because they are connected directly with the regional or district managers responsible for those projects,” she said.
Sungura said the initiative reflects TARURA’s commitment to improving transparency and ensuring communities remain informed about infrastructure projects affecting their daily lives.
She cited the case of a resident from Kimara in Dar es Salaam, Sarah James Joseph, who visited the agency’s stand seeking an update on the construction of the road connecting Kimara Mwisho and King’ongo. Through direct communication with the Ubungo District Manager, she received clarification on the progress of the project.
According to TARURA, the King’ongo road, which is being constructed to concrete standards from the TRA area towards King’ongo, has approximately 1.6 kilometres remaining. Of this, about 800 metres are scheduled for construction starting in July, while the remaining section will be completed during a subsequent phase.
Sungura said the agency would continue improving road infrastructure to ease transportation and connectivity, noting that reliable roads contribute to improved access to social services, increased trade and broader economic development.
Joseph commended TARURA for providing direct engagement with citizens and acknowledged the agency’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and connectivity in communities across Tanzania.
