The Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, has issued a strong warning against individuals spreading inflammatory messages on social media, political platforms, and other public spaces, saying such actions threaten national unity and stability.
Katambi cautioned that hate speech, incitement, and attempts to mobilise unlawful activities targeting the Union of the Republic of Tanzania, government leaders, or religious figures are dangerous and could have serious consequences for the country.
He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to worshippers at Mukadam Mosque in Chang’ombe Ward, Dodoma City, during a Qur’an competition and a fundraising event for the construction of the mosque.
He said Tanzania was built through great sacrifice by its founding leaders and citizens, and warned that efforts to divide the public or encourage violence must be rejected.
“This country was built through sacrifice, including sweat and blood, so that Tanzania could stand as one nation. I urge those using political platforms to spread hatred, division, and incitement or to organise criminal groups aimed at destabilising our country to stop immediately. No one will be safe if such actions continue, because the impact will affect all Tanzanians politically, economically, and socially,” he said.
Katambi further warned that such behaviour risks reversing the country’s development gains, affecting worship, economic activities, and national progress.
He urged young people to remain disciplined, patriotic, and law-abiding, stressing that they should not be misled into unlawful actions.
“When security organs issue warnings and instructions, they must be followed. Ignoring them is a violation of the law and the Constitution,” he added.
