Tanzanians urged to avoid politicians and activists inciting violence

Tanzanians have been urged to distance themselves from politicians and activists who incite violence and threaten peace in the country, with warnings that such individuals do not have the nation’s best interests at heart.

The call was made today, June 4, 2026, in Dar es Salaam by Zimbabwean Pan-African philosopher Dr. Joshua Maponga during a press briefing held on the launch of a publication analyzing events that occurred before and after Tanzania’s General Election held on October 29, 2025. The publication has been produced by African Spear Head Media.

Dr. Maponga said that some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are receiving foreign funding aimed at encouraging activities that go against national values and peace, including violence and divisions between citizens and their leaders.

He warned that such developments pose a serious threat to national stability and security, urging the government to strengthen verification processes for NGOs to better understand their sources of funding and how the money is being used.

He further noted that those who incite violence often live abroad in comfortable conditions, while citizens who participate in unrest suffer severe consequences, including loss of life, property, and shelter.

Dr. Maponga also called on journalists to continue educating the public about the dangers of violent protests and unrest, stressing that such incidents can undermine national development and damage key economic resources.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of African Spear Head Media, David Hundeyin, said Tanzania remains one of the most important economies in Africa due to its strategic position, particularly through the Port of Dar es Salaam, which serves several countries in regional trade and commerce.

He added that citizens must protect the country’s peace and resources, warning that unrest can lead to a significant economic slowdown and negatively affect national development.

“The violence and killings that occurred on October 29, 2025 had a major impact on society. However, there are still some individuals using social media to promote violence. Citizens must be careful with such people because they do not have good intentions for their country,” said Hundeyin.
