SHINYANGA, Tanzania. Tanzania is set to open the Lubaga Forest Ecotourism Centre on June 27, marking a new step in the country's efforts to promote nature-based tourism and environmental conservation.

Developed by the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS), the centre will transform Lubaga Forest in Shinyanga Region into a destination for recreation, environmental education and sustainable tourism.

The new attraction is expected to offer visitors nature trails, cycling opportunities, scenic photography sites and spaces for relaxation, while showcasing the ecological importance of one of the Lake Zone's forest ecosystems.

According to TFS, the initiative seeks to encourage people to reconnect with nature while highlighting the importance of protecting forests and biodiversity.

"For generations, Lubaga Forest has provided clean air, biodiversity and a peaceful environment for people and wildlife. The ecotourism centre will allow visitors to experience these values while appreciating the need for conservation," the agency said.

The project also forms part of Tanzania's broader strategy to diversify its tourism industry beyond traditional wildlife attractions by promoting ecotourism and sustainable use of natural resources.

Officials say the centre is expected to create new opportunities for local communities through tourism-related activities and businesses, while supporting environmental awareness and conservation efforts.

The opening comes as Tanzania increasingly looks to develop new tourism products and destinations in different parts of the country to attract both domestic and international visitors.

When the centre officially opens on Saturday, Lubaga Forest will welcome its first guests with a promise of peace, adventure and an opportunity to experience one of Tanzania's emerging nature destinations.
