Tanzania has stepped up efforts to attract tourists and investors from Egypt through a high-level tourism, trade and investment forum held in Cairo, as the two countries seek to deepen economic cooperation and unlock new business opportunities.
The Tanzania-Egypt Tourism, Trade and Investment Forum, which opened on June 8, brought together senior government officials, tourism agencies, investors, business leaders and private sector stakeholders from both nations to explore avenues for expanding trade, tourism and investment flows.
Leading the Tanzanian delegation, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, participated in the opening session and discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral partnerships in sectors considered critical to economic growth.
The forum was held under a theme promoting stronger links between the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean regions through tourism, trade, investment and market connectivity.
Discussions focused on how the two countries can leverage their strategic locations, growing economies and tourism assets to boost commercial relations.
As part of the engagements, officials from Tanzania’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) presented the country’s tourism offerings and investment opportunities, highlighting attractions ranging from world-renowned wildlife destinations and cultural heritage sites to Zanzibar’s beaches and marine tourism products.
Participants also viewed destination marketing presentations showcasing Tanzania’s tourism potential, while private sector representatives from both countries engaged in business-to-business meetings aimed at establishing new partnerships and strengthening existing commercial networks.
The forum comes at a time when Tanzania is intensifying efforts to diversify its tourism source markets and attract increased foreign investment, while Egypt continues to position itself as a key gateway for trade and investment across North Africa and the Middle East.
Among the dignitaries attending the event were Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Dennis Londo, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Yomna El Bahar, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Egypt, Major General Richard Makanzo, and senior government officials from both countries.
Officials said the forum reflects the growing momentum in Tanzania-Egypt relations and is expected to pave the way for stronger collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders, particularly in tourism development, trade promotion and cross-border investment.
