Slovak Foreign Minister ends Tanzania visit as bilateral ties gain momentum

Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Mr Juraj Blanár, on Thursday concluded a two-day official visit to Tanzania that underscored growing diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

The visit marked a significant milestone in Tanzania-Slovakia relations, highlighted by the opening of Slovakia’s embassy offices in Dar es Salaam and renewed commitments to expand cooperation in trade, investment and cultural exchange.

During his stay, Mr Blanár held high-level talks with Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen engagement in areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders discussed opportunities for enhancing economic diplomacy, promoting private sector partnerships and increasing investment flows between Tanzania and Slovakia.

A major event during the visit was the launch of the Tanzania-Slovakia Business and Investment Forum, which brought together government officials and business leaders from both countries to explore new opportunities for commercial cooperation.

The forum is expected to serve as a platform for fostering partnerships between Tanzanian and Slovak enterprises, particularly in sectors with strong potential for trade and investment growth.

Mr Blanár also inaugurated Slovakia’s diplomatic offices in Dar es Salaam, a development expected to facilitate closer political and economic engagement while providing a stronger institutional framework for bilateral relations.

Beyond official engagements, the Slovak foreign minister visited the Village Museum in Dar es Salaam, where he gained insight into Tanzania’s cultural heritage and traditions.

At the conclusion of his visit, Mr Blanár was seen off at Julius Nyerere International Airport by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa.

Ambassador Mussa reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Slovakia, expressing confidence that the outcomes of the visit would contribute to broader collaboration in diplomacy, trade and investment.

The visit comes as Tanzania continues to pursue economic diplomacy aimed at attracting foreign investment, expanding export markets and building stronger partnerships with countries across Europe and other regions.

Analysts say the establishment of a Slovak diplomatic presence in Tanzania and the growing engagement between the two countries could open new avenues for business cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, further strengthening ties between Dar es Salaam and Bratislava.
