Seed of Changes (SoC), a non-governmental organisation, has joined the global community in calling for urgent and practical action to address the growing impacts of climate change, which continue to affect people’s lives, livelihoods, and the environment across the world.
The call was made as the world marked World Environment Day on June 5, an annual event that brings together governments, civil society organisations, communities, and development partners to reflect on environmental challenges and promote solutions for a more sustainable future.
Speaking during the commemoration, the Executive Director of Seed of Changes, Munira Gonsalves, said this year’s theme, “In harmony with nature. For climate. For our future,” is a strong reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires action from everyone.
She said the theme highlights the importance of restoring degraded ecosystems, strengthening environmental conservation, promoting clean and renewable energy, and encouraging lifestyles that reduce pollution and protect natural resources for present and future generations.
Seed of Changes noted that the impacts of climate change are already being felt in many parts of the world, including rising sea levels, prolonged droughts, extreme heat, heavy rains leading to floods, wildfires, and a decline in biodiversity.
The organisation warned that these are no longer future risks but real challenges that require urgent attention.
Gonsalves emphasized that addressing climate change is not only the responsibility of governments but also communities, institutions, and individuals. She encouraged citizens to take practical steps in their daily lives to help protect the environment.
She said simple actions such as planting trees, properly managing waste, reducing the use of plastics, protecting water sources, and using clean energy can make a meaningful difference in environmental conservation efforts.
“The future of our planet depends on the actions we take today. Every contribution, big or small, matters in protecting the environment and fighting climate change,” said Gonsalves in her message marking World Environment Day 2026.
Seed of Changes also reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with communities, especially young people, to promote environmental education and support local initiatives that build resilience against climate change impacts.
The organisation called for stronger collaboration between stakeholders and urged faster implementation of environmental commitments, noting that delaying action will increase risks for both people and nature.
It further stressed that collective action remains the most effective way to build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for all citizens.

Congratulations to Seed of Changes for stepping up and making your voice heard. Thank you for leading the way and inspiring positive change. Keep up the great work, Madam CEO
