The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, has called on the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) to scale up the installation of electric vehicle charging stations across the country, saying the move is essential in strengthening access to clean and modern transport energy services.
Hon. Ridhiwani made the call on June 17, 2026, when he visited the TANESCO exhibition booth during the ongoing Public Service Week celebrations at Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma.
He said the growing use of electric-powered transport is a major shift in the country’s energy and transport sectors, noting that such developments should be matched with adequate infrastructure to ensure reliable service delivery.
He urged TANESCO to expand charging facilities to different areas in order to support wider adoption of electric vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, bajaji and other electric-powered transport systems.
“TANESCO is doing a commendable job in advancing the use of electricity in transport systems. I encourage you to increase the number of charging stations so that more citizens can access these services,” said Hon. Ridhiwani.
He further commended TANESCO for its continued efforts in promoting clean energy solutions, particularly the use of electricity for cooking and transport, saying these initiatives are helping the country move towards a greener and more sustainable future.
On his part, TANESCO Marketing Manager, Mr. Fredrick Kalinga, said the utility is using the Public Service Week platform to educate citizens on its services, including ongoing electricity generation, transmission and distribution projects, as well as improvements in digital service delivery systems.
He added that TANESCO is also sensitizing the public on the importance of adopting clean energy technologies, especially the use of electricity in cooking and transport, as part of efforts to reduce environmental pollution and improve energy efficiency.
The 2026 Public Service Week celebrations are being held under the theme “Promoting Integrated Accountability for Sustainable Services.” The event officially began on June 16, 2026, and is expected to conclude on June 23, 2026.
