The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) is participating in the African Technology Conference (ATC) 2026, which is taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from June 16 to 18, 2026, bringing together key energy stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
The conference, organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Africa Region, has attracted participants including government representatives, petroleum regulators, major energy companies, petroleum experts, SPE members, trainers, and students from various universities.
The gathering focuses on advancing knowledge, innovation, and collaboration in the oil and gas sector, with a strong emphasis on technology-driven solutions.
PURA is represented at the conference by a delegation led by Engineer Danstan Asanga, Director of Technical Operations, who is attending on behalf of the Director General of PURA, Engineer Charles J. Sangweni.
The delegation is engaging with other industry players in discussions aimed at strengthening regulatory practices and enhancing the development of petroleum resources.
As part of the programme, Engineer Asanga is expected to participate in a high-level panel discussion on the second day of the conference.
The discussion will focus on the role of technology in the development and utilisation of natural gas discoveries across Africa, a sector seen as key to the continent’s energy transition and industrial growth.
The African Technology Conference, also referred to as African Technology Conference (ATC) 2026, is being held for the second time since its establishment.
The inaugural edition took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in May 2025, and brought together more than 400 participants from over 25 countries worldwide, highlighting its growing importance as a continental platform for energy dialogue and technological advancement.
PURA, the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA), continues to strengthen its engagement in international energy forums as part of efforts to enhance regulatory capacity, promote best practices, and support sustainable development of petroleum resources.
The conference is expected to conclude with key recommendations on improving technology adoption in Africa’s petroleum sector and strengthening cooperation among industry stakeholders.
