Nationwide power grid fault disrupts DAWASA water supply across Dar es Salaam, Coast Region

By The Respondents Reporter

A nationwide electricity grid failure has temporarily disrupted water production and distribution services by the Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA), affecting thousands of residents in Dar es Salaam and parts of the Coast Region.

In a public notice issued on June 27, 2026, DAWASA confirmed that the interruption began at 12:59 p.m. following a technical fault on the national electricity grid, which led to a sudden loss of power supply to all its water treatment facilities.

The authority said the situation resulted in a complete suspension of operations at all treatment plants, including those supported by backup power systems, thereby halting both water production and distribution across the affected areas.

DAWASA assured customers that efforts are underway in collaboration with relevant power authorities to restore normal operations as soon as electricity is reinstated and the grid fault is resolved.

The utility further noted that water supply will resume immediately once the system stabilizes and production facilities are fully re-energized.

Meanwhile, the authority has urged residents to use the remaining available water sparingly during the outage and to take necessary conservation measures to manage the temporary shortage.

DAWASA also apologized for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring services as quickly as possible.

For further assistance or inquiries, customers have been advised to contact the DAWASA customer service centre through the toll-free number 181 or via WhatsApp on 0735 202 121.
