Mbeya District Council has received more than 847 million shillings to implement key education development projects aimed at improving learning conditions in primary and secondary schools across the district.

The funds will be used for the construction of classrooms and sanitation facilities for both girls and boys, with the goal of ensuring students learn in a safer, healthier, and more conducive environment.

The announcement was made on June 26, 2026 by the Acting District Executive Director of Mbeya DC, Beatrice Ngutu, during a training session on proper management and utilization of development funds for school construction committees benefiting from the allocation.

Ngutu said the investment reflects the continued commitment of the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to strengthen the education sector through increased budget allocations and targeted development projects.

She noted that successful implementation of the projects depends on professionalism, integrity, and accountability among officials entrusted with public resources, stressing that all procedures must be strictly followed to ensure value for money.

Ngutu also highlighted challenges that have affected development projects in some areas, including delays in implementation that lead to increased costs, violations of public procurement procedures, and construction works that fail to meet required technical standards.

She urged all participants in the training to apply the knowledge gained to ensure funds are used effectively and transparently, while adhering to laws, regulations, and government guidelines governing public project implementation.

The Acting DED warned that the government will take strict legal and disciplinary action against any public servant found misusing or mismanaging development funds, emphasizing that accountability will not be compromised.

She further encouraged the participants to act as ambassadors of proper project supervision within their communities to ensure all ongoing projects are completed on time, meet quality standards, and directly benefit citizens as intended.

Participants in the training said the session was timely and would help them improve their performance in managing development projects at the community level, noting that it has strengthened their understanding of accountability and proper use of public funds.

A member of the school construction committee from Ikhoho Secondary School in Igale Ward, Oseba Mbilinyi, said the training has equipped them with important skills to better supervise projects and ensure that public funds are used for their intended purpose.
