The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Force has confirmed that a man who was initially reported missing in Mbezi Luguruni, Ubungo District, was in fact murdered and secretly buried inside his own house, in a case that has shocked residents after investigations revealed that his own son is the prime suspect.
Police said they received a missing person report on June 16, 2026, at Kimara Gogoni Police Station, filed by close relatives of Ramadhan Jafari, also known as “Muna,” a 47-year-old resident of Mbezi Luguruni. The family had reported him missing after failing to trace his whereabouts.
Following the report, police officers launched immediate investigations involving multiple units within the force, working closely with members of the public in efforts to establish the truth behind the disappearance.
According to police, initial information suggested a possible missing person case, prompting intensified search efforts.
However, as investigations progressed, police uncovered a disturbing development that changed the direction of the case entirely.
It was established that the missing man had not disappeared, but had been killed and his body secretly buried inside one of the rooms within his own house located in Mbezi Luguruni, Kwembe area in Ubungo District.
Police further stated that detailed inquiries led to the identification of a suspect as the victim’s son, Juma Ramadhan, also known as “Juli,” aged 21.
He was later arrested in the Msufini area of Msoga 1 in Pwani Region following coordinated police operations.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to the killing and provided details on how the act was carried out.
Police said he explained that he dug a hole inside a room of the house and buried his father’s body in an attempt to conceal the crime and mislead investigators into believing the victim had simply gone missing.
Authorities said the exact motive behind the killing has not yet been established and remains under active investigation.
Police are continuing with inquiries to determine what led to the fatal incident within the family, as well as whether other factors or individuals may have been involved.
The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Force has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a serious act of violence that goes against both the law and social values.
Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all criminal acts are thoroughly investigated and that those responsible are brought to justice.
“The Force will continue to take firm action against all forms of criminality. Anyone involved in such acts will be arrested and dealt with according to the law once investigations are completed,” police said in a statement.
At the same time, police expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and timely information, saying community involvement remains a key pillar in helping security agencies solve crimes and maintain safety.
The case has left residents of Mbezi Luguruni in shock, with many expressing concern over the nature of the crime, which took place within a family setting and involved an attempt to conceal the body inside a residential house.
Police say investigations are still ongoing, and further legal procedures will follow as the case file is completed for prosecution.
