The Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has highlighted progress in improving services to livestock keepers and fishers, with government officials underscoring the role of the two sectors in supporting food security, employment and economic growth.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, said continued improvements in service delivery, public education and sector reforms are helping to strengthen livestock and fisheries production across the country.

Speaking during a visit to the ministry’s pavilion at the closing of the 2026 National Public Service Week celebrations at Chinangali Park in Dodoma on June 23, Prof. Shemdoe said public institutions should continue serving citizens with professionalism, accountability and responsiveness.

Representing Chief Secretary Dr. Moses Kusiluka, he said he was satisfied with the ministry’s participation in the exhibition and the efforts being undertaken by sector experts to improve services and contribute to national development.

“The Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has actively participated in the National Public Service Week celebrations. It is important to continue serving citizens, listening to stakeholders and addressing challenges that affect service delivery so that quality services reach all Tanzanians,” he said.

Prof. Shemdoe noted that the livestock and fisheries sectors remain among Tanzania’s key economic sectors, contributing to food security, household incomes and national economic development.

He said greater use of technology and innovation would be essential in increasing productivity and enhancing the value of livestock and fisheries products.

The government has in recent years intensified efforts to modernise the sectors through investments in research, extension services, disease control, breeding programmes and value addition initiatives aimed at increasing output and competitiveness.

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries responsible for Livestock, Dr. Fabian Madele, said experts and institutions in the sector should continue expanding the production of improved pasture seeds and high-yield livestock breeds to meet the growing demand from farmers.

He said the government is creating an enabling environment for research institutions and professionals to strengthen innovation, improve livestock breeds and increase the availability of quality pasture seeds.

According to Dr. Madele, these efforts are expected to boost livestock productivity, improve nutrition and raise incomes among livestock keepers.

“The government continues to support research and innovation in the livestock sector as part of efforts to increase production and improve livelihoods,” he said.

Dr. Madele added that the 2026 National Public Service Week celebrations provided an important platform for public institutions to showcase their services and engage directly with citizens.

During the exhibition, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries provided technical advice, public education and information on reforms and achievements in the livestock and fisheries sectors.

The event brought together government institutions from across the country to demonstrate initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery and supporting Tanzania’s socio-economic development.
