Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime, has called on Tanzanian families to strengthen unity, moral values and responsible parenting as a foundation for building a stable and productive society.
DCP Misime made the remarks on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the FFU grounds in Tabora Region during a memorial service for the late Tabora Regional Police Commander, former Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Richard Abwao, who died last week while receiving treatment in Dar es Salaam.
He said the loss of the senior officer should serve as a reminder for society to embrace peace, humility and reconciliation in families and communities.
“Let us go back and reconcile in our homes. Let us work with religious leaders and places of worship. This loss should remind us to return to our families and raise people who value love, dignity, humility and integrity,” he said.
DCP Misime stressed that the strength of society begins at the family level, urging parents to take a more active role in shaping children who can positively contribute to national development.
“Parents, let us go back to our families and raise children who will make positive contributions to society,” he said.
He also urged communities to protect children from abuse and neglect, warning that such practices destroy their future potential and weaken society’s long-term development.
In addition, he cautioned against the spread of hate speech and divisive rhetoric, saying such behaviour undermines national unity and stability.
“Let us avoid wars of words. Hatred and incitement destroy families and weaken the nation. They cannot bring peace, stability or security,” he said.
He added that peace, love and mutual respect remain essential pillars for maintaining national cohesion and safeguarding social harmony.
