The Government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Finance, has stepped up efforts to educate citizens on tax policies, economic management and the role of fiscal systems in national development, as part of the ongoing Public Service Week 2026 exhibitions in Dodoma.
The awareness campaign is being implemented by the Policy Analysis Department under the Ministry of Finance at Chinangali Park, where government institutions are engaging the public on how tax revenues are collected and how they are used to finance key public services such as education, health, water, energy and infrastructure development.
Speaking at the exhibition, Chief Financial Management Officer from the Policy Analysis Department, Abdul Dachi, said the government continues to place strong emphasis on public education to ensure citizens clearly understand the link between taxation, economic policies and development outcomes.
He said the objective is to present economic and fiscal information in a simplified and accessible way so that citizens can better appreciate how government decisions influence national growth, stability and service delivery.
According to Dachi, the department is using the platform to explain key issues including national economic performance, inflation trends and how economic policies are designed to stabilize prices, create employment opportunities and promote inclusive economic growth.
He added that the policies are also structured to ensure efficient revenue collection systems that protect national interests while supporting long-term development goals.
Dachi further explained that the government relies on statistical data and research evidence when preparing national budgets and designing development strategies.
He said this approach ensures that decisions are based on facts and real economic conditions rather than assumptions.
He noted that such data also plays a key role in managing tax agreements between Tanzania and other countries, as well as strengthening regional and international cooperation in taxation matters to safeguard national revenue interests.
The Policy Analysis Department also highlighted its responsibility in conducting policy research and producing technical recommendations that support government decision-making.
These studies help ensure that fiscal and economic policies remain practical, effective and aligned with national development priorities.
Officials at the exhibition also emphasized Tanzania’s growing engagement in international tax cooperation, particularly in addressing cross-border taxation challenges and improving collaboration with regional and global partners.
These efforts are aimed at ensuring fairness in taxation and protecting the country’s revenue base in a globalized economy.
Abdul Dachi said the public education initiative also focuses on promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in the policy-making process.
He stressed that informed citizens play an important role in supporting effective governance and development planning.
He added that through the exhibition, the department is also sensitizing the public on Tanzania’s position in the global economy and the benefits derived from economic partnerships with other countries and international institutions.
These partnerships continue to contribute to development financing, knowledge sharing and capacity building.
To reach more citizens, the ministry is distributing simplified educational materials including brochures and booklets, while also engaging visitors through direct conversations at exhibition booths.
This approach allows citizens to ask questions and receive clear explanations on tax and economic issues.
The Public Service Week exhibition held at Chinangali Park continues to serve as an important platform for government institutions to interact with citizens and provide public services and information in an open and accessible environment.
Through these initiatives, the Ministry of Finance aims to strengthen public understanding of fiscal policies and enhance collaboration between the government and citizens in driving sustainable national development.
