The Ministry of Finance has assured Tanzanians that the implementation of the Government Budget for the 2026/2027 financial year will directly improve citizens’ lives through better social services, expanded infrastructure, increased job opportunities, and a stronger investment environment across the country.
The assurance was given by Senior Economist from the Ministry of Finance, Consolata Komba, while speaking to members of the public who visited the Ministry’s pavilion during the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), commonly known as Sabasaba, held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere grounds in Dar es Salaam.
She explained that the 2026/2027 budget has been carefully designed as a practical development tool that will translate government plans into real benefits for ordinary citizens, including improved health services, better education facilities, reliable transport systems, and easier access to markets for traders and farmers.
The budget, which has been approved by Parliament and will start being implemented on July 1, 2026, amounts to 62.33 trillion shillings.
According to the Ministry, this budget is focused on improving the daily lives of citizens while strengthening the national economy.
Consolata Komba said the government has placed strong emphasis on key sectors that directly impact citizens, especially agriculture, livestock, and fisheries, which employ a large number of Tanzanians.
The goal is to increase productivity, improve household incomes, and ensure food security across the country.
She added that the budget will also improve infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and transport systems to make it easier for citizens to travel, transport goods, and access services without delays or high costs.
In the health sector, the government expects improved availability of medicines, better hospital services, and expanded health facilities, while in education, more schools, learning materials, and improved learning environments are expected to benefit students across the country.
The Ministry of Finance further noted that the budget is also designed to support young people and entrepreneurs by creating a more friendly business environment, expanding access to capital, and encouraging investment in industries that generate employment.
Special focus has also been placed on promoting industrial growth and investment, with the aim of creating more jobs for Tanzanians, especially the youth who are entering the labour market every year.
In addition, the government plans to strengthen the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in public services to make government services faster, simpler, and more accessible. This will reduce unnecessary delays and help citizens access services more efficiently.
The Ministry also emphasized efforts to increase domestic revenue collection in a fair and transparent way, so that the government can continue funding development projects such as roads, schools, and hospitals without over-reliance on external support.
At the same time, the budget includes measures to protect vulnerable groups, including low-income families, the elderly, and other groups facing economic challenges, through continued social support programs.
Consolata Komba encouraged citizens to see the national budget as a shared development plan that requires everyone’s participation.
She urged Tanzanians to engage in productive activities, pay taxes honestly, and take advantage of available opportunities for personal and national growth.
She said responsible tax payment is key in financing public services that directly benefit citizens, including infrastructure, education, health, and security services.
The Ministry of Finance, through its Budget Department, explained that its main role is to ensure proper planning, execution, and monitoring of the national budget so that public resources are used effectively and fairly for the benefit of all Tanzanians.
As the Sabasaba exhibition continues, the Ministry is using the platform to educate citizens on government plans and encourage them to actively participate in national development efforts.
Overall, the 2026/2027 budget is expected to bring real and visible improvements in citizens’ lives by strengthening essential services, creating jobs, and improving economic opportunities across Tanzania.
