Four Arrested over murder of Chinese factory owner in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam. Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of Chinese businessman Bhaozan Li, the owner of a bottle-processing factory in Mabibo, Ubungo District, following weeks of intensive investigations.

The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone said the city remains peaceful, with normal economic and social activities continuing, while authorities maintain efforts to ensure public safety and security.

The arrests follow the killing of Mr Li on May 16, 2026, at his factory, XIL LI, located in Mabibo. Police said the victim was allegedly attacked and killed by individuals who had been working as security guards at the facility.

Speaking on the progress of the investigation, police said a comprehensive operation involving multiple investigative units led to the arrest of four suspects in separate locations.

According to investigators, the suspects confessed during questioning to conspiring to attack the businessman at night before killing him and stealing Sh9 million from the factory.

After the incident, the suspects allegedly fled the area but were later tracked down and arrested in Namanga, Arusha Region, and Mabibo in Dar es Salaam on different dates.

The suspects have been identified as Godson Simon, alias Laizer, 25, a resident of Olkolili in Siha District, Kilimanjaro Region; Elisha Saitoti, alias Luqmay, 24, a resident of Mkonde in Handeni District, Tanga Region; Godfrey Laban, alias Mollel, 30, a resident of Makongo in Kinondoni District; and Godson Pineli, alias Lisika, 24, a resident of Kigamboni District in Dar es Salaam.

Police said the suspects will be taken before the relevant legal authorities as investigations continue and preparations for prosecution are completed.

The incident has drawn attention within the business community, where stakeholders have emphasized the importance of workplace security and the protection of investors whose activities contribute to employment creation and economic growth.

Police have urged members of the public to refrain from engaging in criminal activities, noting that offenders ultimately face serious legal consequences.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that all individuals involved in criminal acts are held accountable through the justice system.
