Finance Ministry strengthens anti-corruption drive through integrity training

The Ministry of Finance has intensified efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in public service by training members of its Integrity Committee on the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan Phase IV (NACSAP IV) 2023–2030.

The training, organised by the ministry’s Department of Administration and Human Resource Management, seeks to equip committee members with the skills and knowledge required to oversee the implementation of the anti-corruption strategy and promote a culture of integrity across the institution.

NACSAP IV serves as Tanzania’s national framework for preventing and combating corruption, providing guidance to public institutions and other stakeholders tasked with safeguarding ethical standards and strengthening governance systems.

Opening the training in Arusha, Acting Commissioner of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Integrity Committee member, Mr Bashiru Taratibu, said the programme was intended to build institutional capacity in implementing the strategy while reinforcing measures aimed at preventing corruption in the discharge of public duties.

He noted that strengthening integrity systems remains critical to improving service delivery, protecting public resources and enhancing public confidence in government institutions.

Mr Taratibu urged participants to make full use of the training by paying close attention to the presentations and discussions, describing the knowledge acquired as an important tool for improving performance and ensuring compliance with ethical standards.

“The objective is to enhance our understanding of the strategy’s implementation framework, promote integrity and strengthen efforts to prevent and combat corruption in the execution of the Ministry’s responsibilities,” he said.

The training brought together officials from key departments and units, including the Department of Administration and Human Resource Management, the Public-Private Partnership Unit, the Government Communication Unit, the Internal Auditor General’s Department and the Department of Financial Management Systems and ICT Services.

The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to strengthen good governance and institutional accountability through the effective implementation of NACSAP IV, which seeks to build a society that upholds integrity and demonstrates zero tolerance for corruption.

As Tanzania continues to pursue public sector reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency, capacity-building programmes such as these are viewed as crucial in ensuring that anti-corruption commitments translate into measurable results across government institutions.

The training was held at the Treasury Sub-Office conference hall in Arusha.
