The Executive Director of the Muhimbili National Hospital, Dr. Delilah Kimambo, has urged pharmacists to take a leading role in driving ongoing reforms aimed at transforming the hospital into a modern, efficient, and patient-centred referral facility.

Speaking during the climax of Pharmacists’ Week celebrations, which are observed annually from June 10 to 16, Dr. Kimambo said the ongoing changes at Muhimbili require health professionals to fully understand and actively support the institution’s transformation agenda.

She said pharmacists play a central role in ensuring the availability, safety, and proper use of medicines, adding that their contribution is critical in building a stronger and more reliable healthcare system.

Dr. Kimambo stressed that the success of the “new Muhimbili” vision depends on teamwork, innovation, and commitment among all health workers. She called on pharmacists to work closely with doctors, nurses, laboratory experts, and other professionals to improve coordination and efficiency in service delivery.

She further noted that Muhimbili is undergoing major reforms, including improvements in infrastructure, strengthening of pharmaceutical services, and enhancement of medical supply systems. These efforts, she said, are part of a broader drive to improve the quality of care offered to patients across the country.

Dr. Kimambo also encouraged pharmacists to be proactive in providing professional advice on medicine management and procurement systems, saying their input is essential in ensuring effective and sustainable health services.

On collaboration, she emphasized that stronger teamwork among health cadres would help reduce service delays and improve patient experience at the hospital.

For their part, pharmacists at Muhimbili thanked the Government and hospital leadership for continued investment in the health sector, particularly in improving access to essential medicines, medical supplies, and modern equipment.

They said these improvements have enhanced service delivery and strengthened the hospital’s capacity to serve a growing number of patients.

The pharmacists also pledged continued support for ongoing reforms, saying they are committed to contributing to the transformation of Muhimbili into a leading centre of excellence in healthcare.

They highlighted the importance of continuous learning and innovation in adapting to new medical technologies and evolving healthcare needs.

This year’s Pharmacists’ Week is being held under the theme: Pharmacy: The Key to the Vision 2050 in the Health Sector, which underscores the vital role of pharmaceutical professionals in achieving long-term health sector development goals.
