The Ministry of Energy is leveraging the ongoing Clean Energy Expo 2026 in Dar es Salaam to intensify public awareness on clean cooking solutions, as Tanzania accelerates efforts to expand access to modern energy and reduce dependence on traditional cooking fuels.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to improve public health, protect the environment and enhance the quality of life for millions of Tanzanians by promoting the adoption of cleaner and safer cooking technologies.

At the exhibition, members of the public are being introduced to a range of clean cooking energy options, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), natural gas, biogas, bioethanol, electricity and alternative charcoal products.

Participants are also receiving practical information on the benefits of each energy source and how they can transition from conventional fuels such as firewood and traditional charcoal.

The awareness campaign comes as the government pursues an ambitious target of ensuring that 80 per cent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034, a goal that is expected to significantly reduce household air pollution, improve health outcomes and curb environmental degradation.

Organised by the Ministry of Energy in partnership with the Tanzania Business Women Association (TABWA), the Clean Energy Expo 2026 is taking place at the East Africa Commercial and Logistics Centre (EACLC) in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam.

The event has brought together policymakers, energy sector stakeholders, development partners, investors and members of the public to assess progress made in advancing clean cooking energy, while identifying challenges and opportunities for future growth.

Speaking at the exhibition, ministry officials underscored the importance of public awareness in achieving the country’s clean energy targets, noting that access to information is crucial in encouraging households to adopt modern cooking technologies.

Beyond showcasing innovative technologies, the expo is providing a platform for entrepreneurs and investors to explore business opportunities within the rapidly growing clean cooking energy market.

Stakeholders are also discussing strategies to expand access to affordable clean energy products and services, particularly in underserved communities.

The exhibition reflects Tanzania’s increasing commitment to sustainable energy solutions at a time when governments across Africa are seeking ways to address energy poverty while meeting environmental and climate goals.

As discussions and exhibitions continue, organisers say the forum is expected to play a key role in accelerating the adoption of clean cooking energy nationwide, supporting the country’s vision of ensuring that more citizens have access to safe, affordable and environmentally friendly cooking solutions.
