Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has toured key development projects in Kigamboni District, inspecting major road works, industrial investments and health infrastructure as authorities intensify efforts to improve public services and support economic growth.
During the visit on June 10, Mr Chalamila assessed the progress of roads being constructed under the second phase of the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP II) as well as infrastructure linked to Tanzania’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking during the tour, the Regional Commissioner thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government for providing funds for development projects, saying the investments were transforming Kigamboni and contributing to broader economic development in Dar es Salaam and across the country.
He said improved infrastructure was opening up opportunities for businesses, easing transportation challenges and creating an environment conducive to investment and job creation.
The tour also took him to Kisarawe II, where he inspected activities being undertaken by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) as part of efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure ahead of AFCON 2027.
Mr Chalamila further visited Watercom Factory, where he reviewed ongoing industrial activities and their contribution to employment creation and local economic development.
In the transport sector, he inspected the construction of the Fullshangwe and Lingia–Nyakwale roads as well as road projects being implemented under TARURA Package Three, which are expected to improve accessibility and connectivity in the district.
The Regional Commissioner also visited Vijibweni Hospital, where he assessed progress on the construction of a Mother and Child healthcare facility.
The project is expected to expand access to maternal and child health services and reduce pressure on existing health facilities in the area.
Addressing residents, Mr Chalamila urged wananchi to make full use of government-backed economic empowerment programmes, particularly loans earmarked for youth, women and persons with disabilities.
He said the financing schemes provide opportunities for beneficiaries to start or expand businesses, generate income and improve their living standards.
Mr Chalamila is expected to continue his visit in Kigamboni, where he will hold a public meeting with residents to hear their concerns and discuss solutions to challenges facing local communities.
The tour reflects the regional administration’s focus on monitoring the implementation of public projects and ensuring that investments deliver meaningful social and economic benefits to citizens.
