Inspectors from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing rehabilitation and upgrading of stadium infrastructure earmarked for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027), following an official inspection tour conducted in Dar es Salaam.
The CAF delegation, comprising Mr. Lakshmikanth Karunanithi and Mr. Eduard Captan, visited key sports facilities to assess progress on improvement works as Tanzania intensifies preparations to co-host the continental tournament.
During their visit, the inspectors toured the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where they reviewed ongoing upgrades to the playing surface, VIP and VVIP sections, as well as dedicated media facilities that will host journalists and broadcasters during the competition.
The inspection also covered training facilities at the Gymkhana II Training Grounds and the Faras Training Ground, which are being prepared to serve as official training venues for participating national teams during AFCON 2027.
According to the CAF officials, the pace and quality of the renovation works reflect strong commitment from the host country to meet the required international standards for major football tournaments.
They noted that the progress observed during the tour demonstrates clear determination to ensure that all facilities are delivered on time and in accordance with CAF regulations.
The inspection forms part of CAF’s regular monitoring missions aimed at evaluating the readiness of host nations ahead of major competitions.
These visits are intended to ensure that stadium infrastructure, training facilities, and related logistics meet the strict standards required for Africa’s biggest football tournament.
Tanzania is among the countries preparing to play a key role in hosting AFCON 2027, and ongoing infrastructure upgrades are seen as a critical step in ensuring successful delivery of the tournament.
