Azam SC have booked their place in the CRDB Federation Cup final after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Young Africans SC in a tense semi-final played at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.
The match produced high drama and intense competition from start to finish, with Azam SC eventually sealing victory in extra time to set up a blockbuster final against Simba SC.
Azam SC started strongly and took the lead in the 28th minute through Hamid Mao, who calmly finished a well-worked attacking move.
The early goal gave Azam confidence, while Young Africans SC were forced to respond by increasing their attacking pressure.
Young Africans SC gradually grew into the game and found their equaliser in the 67th minute through Prince Dube, who restored hope for his side and shifted momentum in their favour.
The contest remained open as both teams pushed forward, and Azam SC regained the lead in the 85th minute when Lameck Lawi scored to make it 2-1. However, the lead did not last long.
Young Africans SC responded just three minutes later when Bakari Mwamnyeto scored in the 88th minute, bringing the score to 2-2 and forcing the match into extra time.
In extra time, both sides showed determination despite fatigue, but Azam SC found the decisive moment in the 112th minute through Japhet Kitambala, whose goal secured a 3-2 win and a place in the final.
Azam SC will now face Simba SC in the CRDB Federation Cup final. Simba SC reached the final after a dominant 4-0 victory over Coastal Union FC in their semi-final at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha.
The final is expected to attract huge attention across the country, bringing together two of Tanzania’s biggest football rivals in a decisive battle for the trophy, with the official date to be announced by the organisers.
