A total of 246,197 students who have been selected to join Form Five in 2026 are required to report to their respective schools from July 4, 2026 to July 31, 2026, as the first term of studies is set to begin on July 6, 2026.
This announcement was made on June 1, 2026 by the Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, while briefing the public at the Ministry’s Magogoni offices in Dar es Salaam on the selection of Form Five and technical college students for the 2026 academic year.
Prof. Shemdoe said a total of 246,197 students, including 114,102 girls and 132,095 boys, have been selected to join Form Five studies in government secondary schools across the country.
He noted that 172,114 students, equivalent to 69.9 percent, have been admitted into 856 government secondary schools, which include 825 boarding schools, 25 day schools, and six schools offering both day and boarding programs.
He further explained that 74,083 students, equivalent to 30.1 percent, have been selected to join various technical and vocational education and training institutions.
Out of these, 3,144 students have been placed in four major technical institutions, including Arusha Technical College (ATC), Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Water Development and Management Institute (WMDI).
Prof. Shemdoe emphasized that the selection of students was conducted based on merit and the available capacity in schools and institutions.
He stressed that there will be no opportunity for school transfers due to lack of space, as placements have already been finalized according to existing admissions criteria.
He also commended the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating substantial funds toward the development of education infrastructure, including secondary schools and technical institutions, which will accommodate all selected students for the 2026 academic year.
