The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Pwani Region has stepped up efforts to promote tax compliance and formal business registration among small-scale entrepreneurs and women groups in Bagamoyo District, as part of wider initiatives to strengthen grassroots economic participation.

Through its Special Business Facilitation Desk, TRA on May 11, 2026 conducted a tax education outreach programme in Dunda Ward, targeting various entrepreneurial groups and women engaged in small businesses.

The training focused on improving understanding of tax procedures, the importance of operating formally and the benefits of registering businesses under the country’s legal framework.

Bagamoyo District TRA Manager, Beatrice Raymond, led the session alongside Hanifa Abdalla, an officer from the Special Business Facilitation Desk.

The officials guided participants on procedures for obtaining Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs) for groups and individuals, while also explaining legal requirements for filing financial records in line with tax regulations.

The outreach programme reflects TRA’s ongoing strategy to build a tax-compliant business environment while empowering wananchi to participate more effectively in the formal economy.

As part of the visit, officials from the Special Business Facilitation Desk also held talks with Bagamoyo District Executive Director, Shauri Selenda, on strengthening cooperation between TRA and local government authorities in delivering tax education and supporting community-based entrepreneurial groups.

The discussions further explored ways to improve registration systems for local groups and expand awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging business formalisation across the district.

During the meeting, the desk presented a progress report outlining achievements recorded since its establishment, including increased engagement with entrepreneurs and community groups. The report also highlighted operational challenges and proposed measures to improve efficiency and expand access to services for citizens.

TRA has in recent years intensified public education campaigns across the country as part of efforts to widen the tax base, simplify compliance procedures and create a more inclusive business environment for small and medium enterprises.
