The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has assured residents of Dar es Salaam that road construction and maintenance works will continue across the city and surrounding areas despite ongoing heavy rains.
In a public statement issued on Saturday, TARURA confirmed that key road development projects, including those under the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP II) and the Climate Resilient Emergency Response Component (CERC), are still being implemented in all councils of Dar es Salaam.
The agency said contractors are actively working on roads, bridges, drainage systems, and related infrastructure, with special measures in place to ensure works continue safely during the rainy season without major disruptions to public transport and daily activities.
TARURA directed all contractors to strengthen temporary diversion routes and maintain all alternative roads so that they remain passable even during heavy downpours.
The agency emphasized that uninterrupted mobility is a priority, especially for commuters, businesses, and emergency services.
To improve safety, contractors have also been instructed to install clear road signs, enhance night lighting at construction sites, and implement proper traffic management plans.
These measures are aimed at protecting road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists, while construction is ongoing.
The agency further stressed the importance of improving drainage systems at all project sites to reduce flooding risks, prevent water damage, and protect road infrastructure under construction.
Contractors have been reminded to strictly follow approved technical standards and ensure quality workmanship.
TARURA said it is closely supervising all projects to ensure compliance with timelines, safety standards, and contractual obligations.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable road infrastructure that will improve transport efficiency and support economic growth in urban and peri-urban areas.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with contractors and follow all traffic guidance provided in construction zones to avoid accidents and congestion.
The agency also expressed appreciation to the public for their patience and understanding, noting that the ongoing road investments are part of government efforts to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and enhance service delivery across the region.
