Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Kaspar Mmuya, has arrived in Zimbabwe to represent the country at the Sixth Ordinary Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management under the Southern African Development Community.

The high-level meeting is being held in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, from May 11 to 14, 2026, bringing together ministers, technical experts and stakeholders from all 16 SADC member states.

The discussions focus on reviewing progress in disaster risk reduction initiatives and strengthening regional cooperation in preparedness, response and recovery systems.

Upon arrival, Mmuya was received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Suzan S. Kaganda, who commended Tanzania’s continued participation in regional platforms aimed at improving disaster management.

She noted that the meeting provides an important opportunity for member states to assess the implementation of regional programmes and align strategies to enhance resilience against disasters.

Ambassador Kaganda also emphasized the importance of promoting Tanzania’s economic opportunities abroad, particularly in tourism, transport and agriculture, and reaffirmed the strong diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Mmuya is attending the meeting on behalf of the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament and Coordination, Palamagamba Kabudi

Tanzania’s participation is expected to enhance knowledge sharing on disaster management systems and strengthen collaboration with regional and international partners.

The meeting is expected to address key areas including early warning systems, coordination mechanisms, and joint preparedness strategies as SADC member states work together to reduce the impact of increasing climate-related and other disasters across the region.
