Tanzania and Germany have initiated strategic discussions aimed at strengthening beach volleyball through an international partnership designed to promote youth development, community engagement and sporting excellence.
The high-level cooperation meeting, currently taking place in Germany, has brought together representatives from volleyball federations, coaches, officials from the German Olympic Committee and development partners from Dar es Salaam, Kagera, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Pwani and Zanzibar. The discussions are scheduled to conclude on June 2.
The initiative seeks to establish a long-term framework for cooperation between the two countries, focusing on the use of beach volleyball as a platform for social development and talent nurturing.
Speaking from Germany, Faru Foundation Secretary General Roby Msigwa said participants were exploring practical strategies and joint projects that could expand access to the sport while creating opportunities for young people to develop their potential.
The discussions have centred on identifying programmes that can be implemented at community level, with both sides examining ways to strengthen collaboration and ensure that future projects deliver tangible benefits to local communities.
Several proposals under consideration are expected to be rolled out from 2027, marking a new phase in efforts to professionalise and expand beach volleyball development in Tanzania.
The meeting has also provided Tanzanian delegates with an opportunity to engage with sports institutions and development stakeholders in Germany, opening new avenues for technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and capacity building.
A key focus of the visit has been learning from Germany’s experience in identifying and supporting talented athletes through structured development pathways.
Delegates have toured major sports development centres and examined models used to nurture young athletes from grassroots level to elite competition.
The knowledge gained is expected to inform future efforts to strengthen Tanzania’s sports development systems and enhance opportunities for emerging talent across the country.
The Tanzanian delegation comprises 18 representatives from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Upon their return, they are expected to present recommendations that could help accelerate the growth of beach volleyball and expand its contribution to youth empowerment and community development.
The partnership underscores the growing role of international cooperation in advancing sports development and reflects a shared commitment by Tanzania and Germany to use sport as a catalyst for social and economic progress.
