President Samia Suluhu Hassan has ordered the strengthening of community policing across Tanzania, stressing that citizens must play a central role in protecting peace, security and stability in the country.
The President made the remarks on Thursday, May 28, 2026, during the graduation ceremony for Police Officers and Assistant Inspectors from Course No.1 of 2025/2026 held at Kurasini in Dar es Salaam.
She said Article 265(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania clearly states that safeguarding the nation is the responsibility of every Tanzanian, making community policing an important tool in implementing that constitutional obligation.
President Samia said cooperation between wananchi and security organs remains vital in preventing crime and maintaining public safety, noting that information from citizens helps security agencies respond quickly to threats facing communities.
She commended the Commissioner in charge of Community Policing for working closely with citizens and urged him to continue strengthening coordination between the police force and the public.
“Our security and protection will largely come from citizens themselves and from the information they provide. When communities are properly educated, they can protect one another and report criminal incidents whenever they occur,” said President Samia.
The Head of State further noted that strengthening community policing would help build trust between citizens and law enforcement authorities while improving crime prevention efforts at the grassroots level.
The event marked the completion of professional training for officers and assistant inspectors expected to serve in different parts of the country as the government continues efforts to enhance public security and institutional capacity within the police force.
