President William Ruto has praised Samia Suluhu Hassan for establishing the Justice Othman Chande Commission to investigate incidents of unrest reported during and after Tanzania’s October 2025 General Election.

Ruto made the remarks on Monday upon arrival in Dar es Salaam for an official visit, describing the move as a demonstration of responsible leadership and a commitment to addressing national challenges through lawful and institutional mechanisms.

He said the formation of the commission reflects the government’s determination to uncover the truth behind the disturbances and ensure that issues affecting peace and stability are resolved through credible and transparent processes.

According to Ruto, the step has received support across the East African region, highlighting the shared interest among partner states in preserving peace, cohesion and economic stability.

He added that Kenya’s experience in managing post-election tensions offers confidence that Tanzania will overcome the current challenges and emerge stronger, while pledging continued cooperation and goodwill between the two countries.

The commission, chaired by Othman Chande, was formed by President Samia as part of broader efforts to strengthen governance systems and safeguard long-term peace following the 2025 polls.
