The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone has confirmed that David Joseph Mghanja, popularly known as “Djumbe,” has been found safe, following reports that he was allegedly abducted by unknown individuals in Bunju, Dar es Salaam.
According to a statement issued on May 21, 2026 by the Acting Commander of the Dar es Salaam Special Zone, the police immediately launched investigations after social media reports on the night of May 20, 2026 claimed that the individual had been forcibly taken by unidentified people.
Police said preliminary findings led them to trace a black Toyota Wish, registration number T 609 DTD, which is registered under Allan Elisonguo Macha. It is reported that Djumbe was travelling in the vehicle as a passenger at the time of the incident.
The statement further noted that on the morning of May 21, 2026, police received information suggesting that Djumbe had been seen at the offices of the opposition political party Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam.
Officers who responded to the report proceeded to the location, where they did not find him, but they met an individual said to have been with him during the incident.
The police have since confirmed that Djumbe has been located safe and is in stable condition, while investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals involved, as well as to determine the motive behind the alleged abduction.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order, adding that legal measures will be taken against all suspects once identified, in accordance with the law. Tanzania Police Force
