Staff and senior officials from the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) have undergone special training aimed at improving performance management and enhancing efficiency in serving Tanzanians.

The training, held in Dodoma on Thursday, was organised by the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance as part of broader government efforts to ensure public servants deliver quality services in line with national development priorities.

The programme brought together leaders and employees from PMO-RALG headquarters, regional administrations, local government authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of performance management systems, strategic planning and alignment of daily activities with the country’s development agenda.

Facilitators Mr. Oswin Mkinga and Mr. Paulo Jorojick said the initiative was in response to directives issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has repeatedly called on public servants to improve accountability and service delivery to citizens.

Mr. Mkinga said the training was intended to enhance productivity and professionalism within public institutions.

“At different times, the President has directed public servants to ensure Tanzanians receive efficient and quality services. Following these directives, the Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr. Juma Selemani Mkomi, instructed us to provide this training to strengthen institutional efficiency and improve service delivery,” he said.

He noted that under Article 35(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, public servants execute government responsibilities on behalf of the President, making it essential for them to work in ways that protect national interests and address citizens’ needs.

Mr. Mkinga also highlighted the importance of the electronic Performance Management Information System (PEPMIS), saying the platform helps institutions identify activities and plans that are not aligned with organisational objectives or measurable results.

According to him, some public institutions still face challenges where certain activities undertaken by staff do not contribute directly to national goals or public expectations, underscoring the need for stronger performance monitoring systems.

Speaking on behalf of the PMO-RALG Permanent Secretary, the Director of Administration and Human Resource Management, Ms. Emma Lyimo, described the training as crucial in helping the ministry achieve its strategic objectives.

She urged participants to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the training in their day-to-day responsibilities to improve efficiency and ensure better services reach wananchi across the country.
