The Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) has been commended for its continued efforts to ensure reliable fuel availability in Tanzania, while supporting price stability and strengthening government revenue collection systems.

The recognition was made on May 13, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, where the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Customs Department awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to PBPA Chief Executive Officer, Erasto Simon, in recognition of the agency’s role in improving the management of fuel imports and distribution systems in the country.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, TRA Customs Deputy Commissioner, Wahabi Matengo, praised Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency for effectively coordinating the bulk procurement of petroleum products, saying the system has significantly improved efficiency in fuel importation and ensured a more reliable supply chain for the country.

Matengo added that PBPA’s operations have also supported government efforts to enhance revenue collection through taxes and other charges linked to fuel imports, contributing to national development priorities.

He further noted that closer coordination between institutions in the energy and revenue sectors has strengthened transparency, compliance, and accountability in petroleum import operations, reducing inefficiencies and ensuring that public resources are well protected.

On his part, PBPA Chief Executive Officer Erasto Simon said the agency will continue working closely with stakeholders in the petroleum sector to ensure Tanzanians have access to safe, reliable, and affordable fuel supplies.

He said ongoing reforms in fuel management systems, the use of modern digital technologies, and strong collaboration between government institutions and private sector players have been key in improving service delivery.

Officials from Tanzania Revenue Authority also reaffirmed their commitment to continue working with PBPA in strengthening oversight of the petroleum supply chain and ensuring that government revenue from fuel-related activities is fully safeguarded for national development.
