The race for the 2025 NBC Premier League title in Tanzania Mainland remains intense and unpredictable as the season approaches its final stages, former Young Africans SC player Salvatory Edward has said.
According to Edward, the championship battle is still far from decided, with the top three clubs—Young Africans SC, Simba SC, and Azam FC all still firmly in contention for the trophy.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Edward said the outcome of the league will be determined by consistency, strategy, and mental strength in the remaining matches, noting that every point at this stage is crucial.
“Right now, the league is being decided on the pitch. Any mistake can cost a team the title, and any team that remains focused and disciplined still has a chance to win it,” he said.
He added that with the season entering its final stretch, pressure is increasing on all title contenders, making it difficult to predict who will emerge as champions.
According to him, the team that manages pressure best and executes its game plan effectively will have the advantage.
Edward further explained that modern Tanzanian football has become more competitive compared to earlier years, when the structure of the league and supporting systems were still developing.
He noted that today’s game benefits from improved regulations, better administration, and more organized competition, which has raised the overall standard of the league.
He also highlighted significant improvements in infrastructure, saying that players now have access to better stadiums and training facilities, unlike in the past when poor pitch conditions affected the quality of play.
“In the past, conditions were not as good as they are today. Now there are better facilities, and that has helped improve performance and professionalism,” he said.
Edward further observed that football has evolved into a full-time profession for many players, unlike earlier times when it was mainly played for passion, fitness, and exposure.
As the title race continues, fans are expected to witness a tense and exciting finish to one of the most competitive seasons in recent years, with no clear favourite yet to lift the trophy.
