Mineral indicative prices for May 08, 2026


Tanzania’s mining sector recorded strong mineral prices on May 08, 2026, with gold continuing to dominate global and local markets following the latest indicative prices released by the Mining Commission.

According to the Commission, the world market price for gold reached 4,758.37 US dollars per troy ounce, reflecting continued strength in international commodity markets. In local currency, the world market equivalent stood at 399,502.06/- per gram.

The Mineral Market Price for gold was set at 359,551.85/- per gram, while the Buying Centre Price was recorded at 351,561.81/- per gram.

The figures indicate sustained momentum in the precious metals market, a development expected to benefit Tanzania’s artisanal and large-scale miners, traders and government revenue collection through the mining sector.

Silver prices also remained stable during the trading period. The world market price for silver stood at 80.34 US dollars per troy ounce, equivalent to 6,745.17/- per gram in Tanzanian currency.

The Mineral Market Price for silver was placed at 6,070.65/- per gram, while the Buying Centre Price reached 5,935.75/- per gram.

Meanwhile, copper maintained positive performance in industrial mineral markets amid growing global demand linked to manufacturing and clean energy technologies.

The world market price for copper was recorded at 6.12 US dollars per pound. In Tanzanian currency, the world market equivalent was 35.23/- per gram.

The Mineral Market Price for copper stood at 31.71/- per gram, while the Buying Centre Price was set at 31.01/- per gram.

The indicative prices issued by the Mining Commission are used as reference rates across mineral trading centres in Tanzania to promote transparency and fair pricing within the sector.

Mining continues to play a major role in Tanzania’s economy through export earnings, employment creation and foreign exchange generation, with gold remaining the country’s leading mineral export.
