The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Emmanuel Nchimbi, has strongly condemned the increasing cases of online abuse and humiliation targeting women, calling on Tanzanians to unite in defending the dignity, respect, and equal treatment of women in both society and digital spaces.

He made the remarks in Dodoma during the climax of the “Malkia wa Nguvu” Awards for the Central Zone, an event that recognizes and celebrates outstanding women excelling in entrepreneurship, innovation, public service, and leadership.

The Vice President expressed concern over the growing trend of women being insulted, shamed, and disrespected on social media platforms, warning that such behavior undermines national values and weakens social cohesion.

He stressed that protecting women’s dignity is a collective responsibility that requires action from all members of society.

He further emphasized that women should be judged based on their contributions to development rather than being subjected to degrading narratives online.

At the same time, he urged women to refrain from participating in or promoting content that insults or humiliates fellow women, saying unity and solidarity are essential in addressing online abuse.

Beyond digital issues, the Vice President raised concern over the increasing moral challenges facing children, particularly the exposure of young people to inappropriate content on social media.

He warned that such exposure is contributing to the erosion of values and could negatively affect the country’s future generation if not urgently addressed.

He called on parents, guardians, and communities to strengthen their role in guiding and protecting children, emphasizing the importance of proper upbringing for national development.

The Vice President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening women empowerment initiatives, including programmes under the 2022–2032 development framework and the Women Development Fund, which continues to provide financial support to women through loans aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and economic independence.

He also highlighted the importance of close collaboration between the Government and the private sector in expanding employment opportunities and ensuring inclusive economic growth that allows women to fully participate in nation-building.

He encouraged platforms such as Malkia wa Nguvu to continue educating the public, particularly on the use of clean cooking energy.

He commended women across Tanzania for their increasing role in driving development and said their participation is central to achieving the goals outlined in the National Development Vision 2050, which seeks to build a strong and equitable nation.

The Vice President further congratulated the Malkia wa Nguvu platform for marking ten years of impactful work, noting its role in identifying opportunities for women and encouraging them to take advantage of available economic and leadership spaces.

The event concluded with the awarding of outstanding women from the Central Zone, recognized for their achievements in various fields including business, innovation, public service, and leadership.
