Strengthening families key to sustaining peace

Community leaders have called on Tanzanians to protect and strengthen families, describing them as the cornerstone of peace, love, and stability in society and the nation at large.

Speaking on Monday, April 6, 2026, Special Seats Councillor for Dar es Salaam City Council, Yusta Kinyukusu Kasamia, alongside Karume resident Ally Karim Mbiku, emphasized that strong families are the first school where children learn essential values, respect, and moral guidance that underpin a harmonious and peaceful society.

“Families have a critical role in raising children with good morals. Parents and guardians must provide proper guidance and remain close to their children, teaching them respect, discipline, and the value of peace. A child raised with these principles at home is more likely to contribute positively to society,” said Mhe. Kasamia.

She stressed that spiritual guidance also plays a key role in nurturing responsible youth, noting that young people who lose hope in life are often vulnerable to criminal influences.

“A youth guided with values and morals will avoid crime and uphold the law. These are the young people who will safeguard our nation’s peace,” she added.

Mr. Mbiku praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for establishing a commission to investigate incidents of unrest during and after the October 29, 2025, General Election.

He highlighted the importance of youth avoiding group influences that disrupt peace, urging them to recognize that peace is fundamental to both personal and national development.

“Peace is the foundation for growth. Young people must understand that their futures, as well as the nation’s progress, rely on preserving unity and harmony,” he said.

Leaders called on communities to work together in nurturing strong families, guiding the youth, and promoting moral values as a sustainable strategy for lasting peace in society.
