Simba SC have been crowned champions of the Muungano Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Young Africans SC (Yanga) in a tense final decided in extra time.
The closely contested match, played over 120 minutes, saw both teams display strong determination and tactical discipline, but neither side managed to break the deadlock during regular time.
Yanga SC created several promising opportunities, while Simba SC also threatened on the counter, but solid defending and goalkeeping kept the score level.
The decisive moment came in the final minute of extra time when Selemani Mwalimu calmly converted a penalty, giving Simba SC the breakthrough they had been searching for.
The strike proved to be the winner as there was no time left for Yanga SC to mount a response.
The victory sees Simba SC lift the Muungano Cup title, adding another major trophy to their collection and extending their competitive edge in one of Tanzania’s most intense football rivalries.
